Here's what we've been up to!

YEG Dignity Day 2018
National AccessAbility Week May 27-June 2, 2018
Our members will be checking out all the cool events happening around the city this week! One of our leaders is a member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee and she has been involved with the planning of these sweet events.
International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2016
A couple of us went to check out the happenings at the IDPD event in Edmonton! There was a Pecha Kucha style speaking series featuring several different agencies supporting individuals with disabilities. There was also a resource fair where we saw a number of agencies listed on our networks page! It was great to get out, connect with others, and celebrate diversity in Edmonton.
Pecha Kucha 2016
Some of us went to a pecha kucha event hosted by Edmonton Next Gen. This is a special speaking format that originated in Tokyo. Essentially you get to hear snippets from several different speakers on a variety of topics (how awesome is that!?). Speakers have a 20 images and 20 seconds per image to tell a story. It was so neat to hear about the many initiatives going on in Edmonton. Seeing what others are doing inspired us to want to put together a Pecha Kucha presentation of our own. Stay tuned! You may see us up on the stage in the coming year. Go21 Walk 2016
This is an annual event some of our followers partake in. It's hosted by the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society and is their main fundraiser. People make up teams and ask for pledges as they walk in celebration of their friends and family with Down Syndrome. The whole event is always a ton of fun. A great opportunity to meet new people and take in the beautiful diversity that exists in our city. Our own follower, Paige, takes part every year with her family as a part of the team "Down with Adoption". She walks to celebrate the joy her sister's Mimi and Jane and her nephew Camryn bring to her life.

Autism Artistry-November 2015
Autism Artistry is an innovative business started in Edmonton by two young men and their mother. Ben and Grant produce beautiful art that portrays their unique perspective and invites others in. They hope that through their art they may facilitate connection among individuals with differing viewpoints. In the middle of November we had the opportunity to go see Grant and Ben's artwork showcased at the Art Gallery of Alberta! Accessibility Advisory Committee Visit-April 2015
Our city is enriched by the contributions of persons with disabilities. Our community is strengthened when everyone is included. This is the belief of this panel of individuals who gather in City Hall to provide advice and recommendations to Council about facilities and other infrastructure, programs, services, activities and policies, for the purpose of improving the City's livability, inclusiveness and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Two of our members had the opportunity to sit in on a meeting and hear what the committee has been up to. While we were there we saw Anthony and his mother present about his delivery business Anthony at Your Service.

Buddy Walk 2014
On November 2nd, 2014 we headed to Rundle Park for the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society's Annual Buddy Walk. This is a great event held each year to raise funds for the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) and raise awareness about Down Syndrome. Together, with our friends and family, we had a great time strutting our stuff, connecting with old friends, celebrating new ones, and spreading the word about our socials.
