Our Roots
Who we are, what brought us here, and why we feel its important to support people to form roots in communities everywhere
We started RootEd. in hopes of creating opportunities for individuals with and without disabilities to meet and form friendships-building roots in their community. We want to share our understanding of disability and perspective on diversity with others in hopes of creating a community in which all individuals have the opportunity to engage meaningfully with others, build relationship, and connect with those around them.

Disability Community Connection
I am a Registered Nurse. My parent’s work for an organization that supports people with disabilities so I had the pleasure of growing up alongside a lot of the client’s supported by the organization. I then went on to work for the organization myself, as well as work/volunteer with a couple other organizations.
How are you RootEd?
Some of the communities that I am rooted in are: my family, my work, my Rotary family, as a yogi, as an avid procrastibaker and as a cat-lover.
Quirky Fun Fact!
I just signed up to take adult skating lessons and I really don’t like mushrooms. I look forward to getting to know you and learn all about the communities you are RootEd. in!

Disability Community Connection I am a sister, friend, and support to a number of folks who experience disability. These relationships bring me so much joy! But they have also taught me a lot about disability, stigma, and ableism. I have a passion for social change and am always looking for opportunities to shift/nudge/evolve spaces and perspectives. Over the years I've had the opportunity to work for a number of local agencies supporting people who experience disability and their families including Camp HeHoHa, Skills Society, Adaptabilities, and the Robin Hood Association. I am a registered Occupational Therapist and currently pursuing a PhD exploring how people with intellectual disability negotiate belonging within dis/ableist community spaces. How are you RootEd? Feeling like I belong and am rooted in community fills me up! I'm always looking to join communities that make me feel welcome and a part of something bigger than myself. Some places I feel rooted include my family, Rotary, the University, RootEd., and within my spiritual community. Quirky Fun Fact! My favorite snack is pickles and cheese, I like to sew, and I have 11 siblings! |
